What is the widest zoom span you've seen for DSLR's? Last week I saw one that was something like 24mm-3,000mm, but I can no longer locate it. It even had some sample photos taken at max zoom which were super-clear. The camera may have been a Kodak or some other non-Nikon, non-Canon product. If you know of any and can produce max telephoto images from said camera, that would be great. Thanks.
The Nikon P1000 has a 24-3000 zoom but it's not a DSLR and it's a 35mm equivalent.
A 24-3000mm zoom lens for a DLSR would have to be pretty big and heavy and expensive. For example a Canon EF 1200 f/5.6 weighs over 35 pounds and costs around $120,000 and the Sigma 200-500 f/2.8 is the size of a trunk and costs over $30,000.
You'd need a small truck to tote around a 24-3000mm zoom lens for a DSLR.
I omitted one minor detail: it’s a small handheld camera that supposedly is capable of all of this.

Depending on your definition of small, that could still be the new Nikon P1000

It not really 24-3000, It a 35mm equivalent angle of view based in part by the tiny size of the sensor. If it was a true 24-3000mm lens it would be humongous.

Bingo! That was the model to which I was referring. It’s astounding!!!

Morrison1116 already answered that with the second post.
According to the rules of UHH you owe him $1,000.
LOL!

The Nikon P1000 is not small or even light weight. Its the size of a DSLR and weighs 3.1 libs.

In comparison with my D500 when attached to the Tamron 150-600mm, yes, the P1000 is a relatively lightweight camera, considering its zoom range (even if it’s more simulated than actual, as some have suggested).
Note the following review:
The headline feature of the P1000 is undoubtedly its zoom lens, which covers an astonishing (but no longer incredible) range of 24-3000mm (equiv). That's wide enough to capture landscapes or interiors at the wide end, and closeup shots of the moon at the telephoto setting.
Notice we said closeups of the moon. The shot above (supplied by Nikon) was taken at ~2600mm (equiv) and as you can see, the moon almost fills the frame, even before the zoom is racked in to its maximum extent. Just to really hammer the point home, Nikon has even included a dedicated 'moon mode' on the main exposure mode dial.
125X optical zoom (24-3000mm equivalent)

It has image stabilization, and there is an optional remote control. Put the camera on a tripod and use the remote.

The new Nikon P1000 (I think) has the zoom range you describe. But at the cost of a small sensor.
Extreme zooms suffer from many things but it is important to understand that most OEM equipment is produced at tighter tolerances than third party lenses. Hence the price difference. Do not be fooled, over time tight tolerances make a hugh difference in the performance of a long zoom lens.
Probably the Nikon P1000. On those sample photos, think TRIPOD or burst shooting for the best lucky one hand held.
