Thank you that was all I was asking. You guys have to understand, when newbies ask less than precise questions it often time is that we don't have your background knowledge and our question is as precise as we know how to make it. Perhaps if you were a little less condescending and a little more understanding things would go a little easier. At least in most cases, we are not dumb just ignorant. There is difference.

Welcome to UHH. You do learn to develop a thick skin here! Take heart in the fact that we're all learning all the time. There are no stupid questions. If you don't know, you don't know. You may not know what to ask to get to the real answer you NEED to know to get the most out of your photography.

So, you just made a point I've made here from time to time, that newbies sometimes ask the wrong questions, innocently. How can you know what to ask, if you don't have a complete enough understanding of the topic?

It's sort of the same as, "The customer is always right." The customer ISN'T always right. Sometimes a customer asks for things that defy the current possibilities, would break the known laws of physics, are illegal, immoral, or fattening (joke!), or simply don't have solutions, given the current state of knowledge and technology. They simply don't know which way to turn. They know what they want, but they don't know — or know why — it is impossible to get it, from anyone! A good consultative sales person will ask enough questions to get out in front of that dilemma and guide the customer to a realistic solution.

Collectively, I think that's happened here...

Without getting into a lot of detail, your lens must have a built-in focusing motor to autofocus on your D5600 camera. Not all DX lenses have that feature.

Yes, there must be a motor in the lens regardless if it is a crop or FF lens with that model of camera.

Of course, from the responses of all, this did not violate any rules. But the “enforcer” must know better.

I couldn’t possibly have been trying to actually answer the question.

Not better at all. Are you the one giving him the incredibly awful advice he has mentioned?

No. Not the one who told me that it wasn’t permissible to include a responsive link in answering a question. Just a “chimer in”.

It’s not a mess. You asked a totally legit question and eventually got the answers you needed. I apologize if my response provoked all the drama. I was just trying to provide an accurate answer. I’ll shut up now.
