Microsoft 10 and my photos...

Okay, so I'm having trouble with Microsoft 10 and my photos. First, I'm not sure what happened, but I suspect someone hacked into my computer and took or deleted my photos. I found two e-mail addresses (one was a phone number and one was a e-mail address I never would have created.) Most of my older photos were missing except a few of the most recent ones downloaded. Luckily, I have my best work backed up on CD's. So, I've spent well over 8 hours recreating files and placing my photos back on my computer. The problem I'm still having is with Microsoft 10. Some of the photos are downloading into a program that allows you to create slide shows and files etc. but I have a lot of images (stock photos) that appear between my shots. I'm not the most computer smart person anymore, but I'm just frustrated. Guess I need to take a class or watch more U-Tube videos on how to manage your photos on Microsoft 10. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

No problem with the missing photos except Microsoft 10 always put them in the strangest places. I have issues with Microsoft 10 and am currently looking for another photo program. Most of the time it just stops responding part way thru of me looking through them. I keep doing the updates and have taken the computer in. Nothing can be done till Microsoft decides to fix it. This is my third computer and they have all done it. Good luck.

Just be aware that there is a huge Windows 10 update coming out early fall. If the past tells us anything, that update may create a whole new slew of problems. Just sayin . . . It's one reason that my important photos and programs are all still running on a Windows 7 machine.

Conduct a file search on the hard drive. Sometimes files are not located where you think they should be.... especially with Windows 10.

And if you download your photos using Adobe Bridge then they go exactly where you tell them to go.

First, I really, really doubt hackers want your photos unless you are a celebrity in the nude and second if hackers took them they would just download a copy not actually cart them away. And deleting seems improbable because usually not what they are going for. So, first look in your Recycle Bin that you did not accidentally deleted a whole folder vs a file, do a search for one of the photos you remember the name, which will give you the path to them, etc. Betting they are still there somewhere, Win 10 was just bored and hid them from you.

Second, the two strange email addresses - you didn't say where they were located - could be your program auto-adding to address book if set that way.

Added comment - you should have total control where you save your photos, just a matter of setting your software default setting.

Do a search for .jpeg, .cr2, .nef or what ever file format your photos are in (I use an ap called searcheverything) on your hard drive, and you will most likely find them in a folder you hadn’t expected. Very unlikely a hacker or virus would take only photos. More likely, they are just located in a different folder than the one(s) you’ve checked.

I agree with all of the other comments. I don't know if you are interested in mybwirk flow. If you are, here is what I do every time I take photos. I shoot both jpg and raw on my Nikon D3400, yes an entry level kit camera, I take out the card from the camera and put it into the scars slot on my desktop. I then save itbtona specific site that fits the subject of the photos. I always set those folders up in in my users directory. I subscribe to both MS 360 which gives me huge storage capability on "One Drive," from which I can share photos with friends or relatives, and Carbonite, which stores a copy of files and folders in my users directory automatically. Once i find that the Carbonite backup worked, a green thing we appears to indicate the photos were saved, I then reformat the SD Card.

Then I have, essentially, 3 copies of each photo in case something bad happens.

Get a large external drive and back up everything regularly. I don't even store photos on my C:/ drive any more. All on a large internal hard drive with back up on an external drive. I actually work off one of my external drives and back up on another external and my internal. Have a GREAT DAY!

Frankly, I don't let a computer, decide for me, where things get put. Get into the habit of creating your own folders, and instruct the computer where you want to save your pix and info. Win10 is horrible at this and MS did the public no favors by taking a lot of the control over the machine out of the user's hands

Every few days, I have someone tell me they think their computer was hacked because they have a problem, or they can't find something. Hacking of personal computers is almost non-existent. Unless you can influence an election or make someone rich, you just aren't important enough. No offense. : )

And I'm here to tell you that win 10 has behaved almost flawless since It's inception. I automatically take every update and have not an an issue. Fine stay on win 7, it was/is great system but will come to haunt you since it is unsupported.

In days of old they used to screw up every other release. The spent a lot of time doing a longer and bigger beta for 10 and it came off the shelf very well. Perfect no, but nothing earth shattering.

As a side note, if you don't put on the updates, and do have an issue, they will not even talk to unless you have every update on the system.

I have had some similar issues. When you go to the start menu check all the picture menus that come up. Some how a new path may have been created where your pictures are. This does not always happen because of Windows 10. Ii is always go to also to hmmsweep the computer for malware and viruses on a regular basis. If you have an IT person you may them to look into the situation.
