Hi Everyone ,
A Question on Aspect ratio ..
I use a D300s which has a 3x2 ..
I compose using the Viewfinder ..
Sometimes I require to print some off ( via a lab ) at 6inches x 4 inches ..
But often when I crop on PS at 6x4 I often find that this cuts of parts of the image ..
Why is this ? If its 6x4 ( 3x2 ) out of the camera then surely that what it should stay .
Why does it change ?
Tnx

It should be the same. If you are cropping - which you don't need to do, incidentally - then there is where you are losing parts of your image. You can send them a full sized (not resized) image with the correct aspect ratio, and they will automatically resize it

Can you provide a demonstration? Your D300s sports a sensor measured at 4288 × 2848 pixels / 12.3MP. The ratio is 3x2. Images from this camera will print
without cropping to image sizes based on a 3x2 ratio (6x4, 12x8, 15x10, 30x20, and so forth). If you find you're losing original image data when printing, something is occurring in your processing that is different than you've described. An example image should help us identify and understand this discrepancy.
Do you use Windows? Double-check the dimensions of your unedited photo by going to the folder in which it resides, hover your mouse over a pic and then right-click, then from the menu choose properties, details. If it isn't showing 4288x2848 pixels, you might have set your aspect ratio inadvertently in the camera to 4:3.

A lot of labs (and, for that matter, inkjet printers used at home) automatically crop a little off the edges of images unless you specify no cropping.

Bleed.
Every photo printer or mini-lab (machine) projects a slightly larger image onto the paper of borderless prints. The overspill is about 1-2 mm per edge.
To "crop" MEANS to eliminate parts of an original image for aesthetic and/or production reasons. If YOU are using a crop tool as part of your Photoshop work then you're the one who decdes what gets cut out. If it's being done at the printer, either individually or (more likely) automatially as part of the mechanics of making the print, then it's something you have to figure out and deal with (if you can) or find a different printing method that suits your needs better.
What size paper are you requesting? If it is 8 1/2 by 11 inches that is not exactly a 3X2. Ask the lab to size by the paper, not the print. It will leave some of a white edge, but you can trim the print to the image. If they size the print by the image, it will try and print a 9X12 image on the 8 1/2 X 11 paper with no border, but slightly cropped. This is what I do when getting prints. Alternatively if on a 4x6 image you may be requesting borderless. The printer will automatically enlarge the image slightly to make sure there is no white edge, at 4x6, if the paper is 4X6 it should print at the same ratio and the borderless instruction is unnecessary.

If you are cropping the image be sure to put a check mark in the box that says to maintain the same aspect ratio.
