I have always enjoyed taking pictures (most recently with a Nikon Coolpic)...a great little easy to carry camera! However, my husband decided I needed a new camera for my birthday and surprised me with a Nikon D7500 with a 16-80 lens and also a Tamron 18-400 lens. This camera has so much to learn for a beginner...appreciate any help and suggestions.

Don’t get overwhelmed with all it can do. Take baby steps, and just learn a little each day. Mostly, enjoy the heck out of it. Don’t be shy about asking members for help when you have a question.

Donna, welcome to the forum.Ask questions and have fun. Lean the camera with the 16-80 first and then move on trying the heavier 18-400. Your husband is helping you fine tune and expand your capabilities.

I have the 16-80 lens, it's a nice versatile lens. The best advice I can give you, and I've been playing with cameras since the late 60's, early 70's, read the manual and get a good book specific to the D7500 and read it. You will be amazed at what you will learn to do with your camera from a book.
Welcome to the UHH.

Welcome! Rather than trying to read he manual which I find is impossible. Google the camera name and model and see if any one has published a book for that particular camera. I find those references much more unstandable. Good luck!

Welcome to UHH Donna, glad you joined us. Suggest you do the following to learn your new camera, read your manual, Nikon USA tutorials and UTube videos. Be brand and model specific on UTube. After doing all of that read your camera manual again!
Have fun, learn and enjoy the forum.

Don

Hi Donna, welcome to the forum.
You Tube for the video learners, and Google for the words learners are a treasure trove of tutorials from the basics to very advanced techniques for any form of photography and any camera. Type "Nikon 7500" into the search box in You Tube or Google, and you will se a number of tutorials displayed. Pick one you like. Some of the hosts a re difficult to understand, or even like. Skip past them and find someone you like. Relax with the camera and your favorite (mild) beverage in hand and follow the steps. On that camera there is a rather extensive feature set that requires set-up. Look for a video or article that does this. The look for something with "hands on" or "Shooting with" in the title. Then move on to Portraits (or Landscapes) or Pets, or kids, etc.) with the Nikon D7500 tutorial." Add Indoor and Out door to these etc.

After a few sessions you will be ready to out do that Coolpix, when it comes to making the camera do what YOU want, and take the photos that emphasize what YOU see. It is an adventure and a really positive intellectual exercise to keep you sharper than ever before.

If you're not used to this resource you might like to know that you can research recipes, repairs etc. Knowing what's involved, even if you don't lift a tool yourself, equips you with the knowledge to know it this is do it your (him) self, or in the PRO (call the man) zone.

C

And bake some cookies for that very generous Husband. He sees something in your photos that tells him that you're ready for CONTROL!
