Thanks so much, Cathy, glad you liked! I first saw this plant when someone posted it on this site... I was amazed at how beautiful and unique it is, turns out a nursery near us sold them, I now have three colors!

Thanks so much, Corolyn!!! When I first saw this flower on this site, I couldn't believe how unusual it was... had to find a nursery near me and add it to my garden (in pots)... and they're all doing great!! If I get seeds the end of the year, would you like some??

That's great Angela and ours is coming along and nearing the top of the cage but just noticed that it looked wilted. I don't understand why, as I watered thoroughly this morning but anyway put several more cups of water on it. A seedling of another passionflower that we purchased locally last year produced its first bloom yesterday. The parent plant could not survive the winter in our zone but surprising three or four seedlings plants came up in the spring! Last season we also ordered a more fancy hybrid from south Florida which would only winter over in the very warm zones and before the first frost it was dead, but low and behold about three or four of its seedlings also came up this spring, and several are at the top or above of the arbor, so if those two types and the Maypop all bloom hope to take images of all three types! It is soo dry here and tired of all the watering and just struggling to keep the plants and young trees alive and even some of our and the neighbors mature trees are showing stress! Take care! PS Just took a few images of a Black Swallowtail swooping down and depositing eggs on the parsley! Take care and hope you guys have a great weekend!

That's great about your other Maypop varieties... do they all self seed and multiply?? We were just outback sitting by the pond and I see the monarch again... I always check the plants when I see her and there was the cutest little cat about and inch long that came in the house with me... then David finds a tiny one that just hatched... so now that one was added to the collection.... I have so many now, I might actually beat my 23 from last year!!

How wonderful you spotted a Black Swallowtail depositing eggs!!! Can you spot them like the monarch eggs.... once you see the cats, try putting a netting or something over the plant so the birds don't swoop in!!

Enjoy the rest of the evening and have a great weekend.... rain expected tomorrow night and Sunday... hope you get some!!

Angela, when I went outside early this morning a drop of rain would fall every once in a while, but now about three hours later it has finally settled into a slow steady rain and so hope that it continues!...The tag on first passion flower that we purchased locally in the Spring of 2017 stated that in would withstand temperatures into the mid-twenties and the second one we purchased from southern Florida probably about a month later indicated that it was good down to around forty, as I remember, but I couldn't locate either tag which went into more detail and had no idea that either would reseed itself. That's the main reason that I wanted to purchase a Maypop because it's suppose to be hardy to zone seven so the roots should survive the cold and also from pictures I've seen really resembles the hybrid one we purchased from Florida which I think is very beautiful! If you take a look at the passion flowers I posted last year I think that the Maypops bloom should resemble the images of the Florida hybrid. Although not quite as attractive to me as the hybrid the passion flower purchased locally was a prolific bloomer and the hybrid only produced three blooms, but was much smaller and planted about a month later, so this years comparisons should be interesting...After talking with you last year I did place netting over the cats on the parsley but there were so many that they ate the foliage to the ground and also a second plant that I had in reserve. I finally removed the netting in desperation as they were disappearing (probably starving) and am afraid that very few made it! Take care and have fun!

Good morning, Corky... another beautiful day here and I released Monarch #4... another boy and just in time, we're supposed to get hit with lots of rain tonight and into tomorrow.... glad you are getting some showers which are greatly needed by you!!
If you tropical maypops grow, you should consider planting them in a pot, that way you can either put them in a shed or bring them inside for the winter. ....like I've said, mine is still in a pot and I think it will stay in it until next year.

I remember about your parsley last year... you probably need to plant seeds in the ground so you have a lot. We bought another milkweed this year in fear of not having enough food... so far, so good!!

I'm looking forward to your maypop comparision shots....

Enjoy the day.... we're stuck inside, having a new shed built and this one will be taller so David won't smash his head every time he goes into it!! LOL..

Angela, if it rains, does it wash the caterpillars off their leaves?
