Backgrounds, in my humble opinion, have a huge effect on image quality. I like the background in this one.

Would it look even better if the insects body was not on the same angle as the stick?

That's how it was in nature. Not sure that changing it would help. Might try, though.

Not suggesting you alter the nature photo, just asking a compositional question.

It would have been nice to be able to take shots from different angles but every time I moved he would fly away and I had to chase him down again.
