I have a buch of 120 negs and transparencies. I'm looking for a company that will scan these. My local companies charge an arm--and-a- leg. Help!

I'm not certain of the going rate for an arm and a leg lately, but 120's generally cost more as there is no automated device to scan them. What you are paying =for is equipment time (a PC & scanner) plus someone to man the scanner.

If you have time, and your bunch of 120 negatives and transparencies is large enough, you can buy a flat bed scanner with the optional 120 mask & holder. They are reasonably fast, offer many options (including ICE if your film is scratched or has embedded dust on the emulsion), and give surprisingly good results (given the inherent limitations of a flatbed used for anything non reflective). For about $200 you can give it a try. Most will come with mask/holders for 35mm slides and negatives, as well as an OCR application, PDF file generator, and god old fashioned scanning of photos and documents.

But you probably know all that already.
Sorry, that was the only option I could think of, assuming you have already shopped around on the Internet for someone to do it for you.

The Epson 750 series flatbed scanners, north of $600, are pricey but exceptional performers.

So I'm not quite sure I understand your question... You need help finding a cheap place to scan your negatives? Do you care about quality or turn-around time? Or is this just a post out of frustration because you are beginning to realize how much this is going to cost you?

I know about the cost. I am trying to find a cheap place. I am considering a flatbed scanner. Thanks for your replies. BTW an arm and a leg is going for $60+.

Here is the best bargain on the market for high quality scans of 120 negs or transparencies. I have used one for almost 2 years with fantastic results. Comes with all the software you will need including Digital ICE to remove dust and scratches (up to a point). I have recommended this to many UHH members who bought it and haven't had a single one of them have anything bad to say about it.

I totally agree with the v500! I've had mine for over a year and have scanned many, many, many photos, slides and mementos. I bought mine at Office Depot, it was on sale. The person helping me said that I could return it within 10 days if I was not satisfied with the speed (of scan to final product) or results. Like I said, I've had mine for over a year and am still using it!

Attached is one of the many beer coaster I collected in Germany from 1972 to 1975 (when stationed there in the Army)

and a scanned 35mm negative of the Palace at Wurzburg

I don't know how many your 'bunch' is, but my bunch recently cost nearly $100! So I'd do the $60 and get it over with....unless you expect to have lots more then the Epsons may be worth it.
