Thinking of a bridge camera. Have read reviews and am confused. Canon has more zoom, but Panasonic has more features.

The Panasonic and the Canon have very close quality in photos. I have FZ40 and SX40 and I would be hard pressed to give one preference over the other. I do really really like the SX, but the Panasonic is like an extension of my hand. Both fit my hand beautifully... the sx weighs a tiny bit more and provides a little more stability I think, but on a tripod equality is there.

The SX has eye piece and so does the FZ40.... I am not sure about the FZ150. I find the eye piece to be a major asset for me. So there ya have it. I would go play and touch get the feel in your hand and let that be your guide. But then again....

As a canon girl i've heard that the zoom is a little slow which is disappointing but im not surprised i had on bridge 600 camera of there's it is was slow also so i had to wait a few extra seconds . I stay true to canon since that it what i know .

I have read all reviews for the FZ150 and there are no complaints on it what so ever .
Hope this helps .

I owned the FZ100 and upgraded to the FZ150. VERY happy with the camera overall. Vivitar 383 external flash fits and works with the FZ150. The range, 24mm to over 600mm, is astonishing. Here are a couple shots I took at a local stage production of "An Evening of Old Time Radio, Richard Diamond and The Bickersons." I then converted to b&w for printing using Topaz BW Effects in PSE 10. The data indicates these were shot at a 35mm equivalent of 584mm, 1/30th sec. f/4.9, no flash, using a tripod. Shot in .jpg and RAW, but processed with RAW. I'm very happy with the results. And I've never experienced any shutter lag with the FZ150. It's a great camera, and the FZ200 should be even better. f/2.8 THROUGH THE ENTIRE ZOOM RANGE! That's amazing!!!!!!!!!!

I think more accurately put would be "I suffer from its shutter lag." It is there and depending on what you photograph, it can be a problem. I personally do not find it a handicap, and the good points of the Canon far outweigh that aspect. I do not have an FZ150 as stated in the first response I have FZ40, therefore I cannot give you an accurate comparison, other than my opinion of Canon vs Panasonic... Both very good cameras.

I have an FZ150 and it's great. No noticable shutter lag, brilliant zoom. An all round great camera. Don't buy it! Get the FZ200, all the same features plus constant 2.8 lens. Anyone want to buy a 1 month old FZ150?

While checking out my friends new SX40 yesterday I found it lacking many features offered in the FZ cameras - one of which was the ability to increase the shutter & focal sound - he is hard of hearing and cannot hear the focal "beeps" . many modes - in short the book of instructions was close to a P&S.
I did like the fact the CP filter fits the lens without an adapter ring and does NOT have vignetting at any range.
I'd still go for the FX150 or 200 when it comes out.

If you're not in a big hurry there is supposed to be a new FZ200 coming out soon that is being touted as superior to anything out there in the bridge world right now. I've got an FZ-30 and I love it so my next bridge would be an FZ-150 or FZ-200, although I hear no complaints about the quality of SX-40 output either. Some shots posted on UHH from SX-40 users have been quite amazing.

Waldron,
You'll simply have to go to the Canon and Panasonic websites and look at the features and specs for each camera, then decide which would satisfy you MORE with the kind of photos you shoot. There simply will not be a camera that does it all...even this new Panasonic FZ200 that's coming out because there will be some things missing on it that photographers grumble about. For example, some people will wish that the articulated screen had more dots of resolution for help with viewing in bright sunlight---it has 460,000 dots which is only slightly better than the one on your SX40.
A lot of people here on UHH really like the Nikon P510 which has a range of 24mm to 1000mm! And they're claiming that the photos are really brilliant even at that 1000mm.
Fujifilm has its X-S1 which has about the same focal range as the FZ150/200 but has a big sensor that allegedly provides very sharp images. I've owned a couple of Fuji superzooms and can attest to its great images.
With all that being said, I believe it really might be worth your while to check into the Panasonic FZ200, in spite of its so-so articulated screen resolution. The rest of the specs, ON PAPER, make it look mouth-watering, to say the least. And when you couple this with Panasonic's release of the G5 and that some famous sports photographer will be using it exclusively for shooting the Olympics, it seems like Panasonic might be a very wise choice. Here's the article about the G5:
