A familiar subject (at least to me!), with a 90 degree rotation and crop, to focus on the wonderful "burnished chain mail" coloration that this species displays.

Looks like a carp due to the fin still in the shot.

👏

Thought I’d leave something for the ichthyologists among us to recognize. 😉

Not an Ichy guy just a fisherman. They were originally imported from Germany to a guy I think in Ohio. He wanted to farm them as a food source. Actually tried it once but you have to clean it properly to eat it. A texture like tuna and a bit sweeter than tuna. I baked it with lemon juice and salt and pepper. So as a food source it would have done well but the guy who imported them died and his pond was near a river that overflowed its banks either late 1800's or very early 1900's. At the time it flooded all the carp escaped maybe not all but enough to fill our lakes and waterway and ponds with carp. It breeds easily and it eats only vegetation. I know it likes mulberries as I have watched them from the side of a creek. I also know the best bait is usually corn flakes or Wheaties. Usually catch them here in Ohio as they put up a fight as good as a catfish does. Learned how to clean them from an old guy I met fishing once. Took one home and gave him the rest of the catch that day. That was 40 years ago these days in Hamilton county Ohio you are told by their brochures that you should only consume one fish a day due to the toxicity of the fish flesh from the county parks. You really need to read the find print on the brochure to find that out. Have fun fishing.

Agreed, they are a fine sporting fish and I also know of several Central & Eastern European countries where they are bred for the table. It’s a shame we allowed big businesses to pay politicians to look the other way, while they polluted our environment over the last hundred years. Here in the US we truly do have the best politicians money can buy.

Sad they can be bought at the wages they make.
