Nikon flash shoe for Ring flash

Hello
I made the plunge and replaced my 12 mp point and shoot digital for a Nikon 3400. I have had it less than a month. It has been a lot of fun using my old lenses from my Nikon FTN especially my 55mm Micro Nikkor macro lens. I am a retired botany professor and I need to resume shooting flower close ups for a book I am writing. How can I find a flash shoe to attach my old Unitron RL80 ring flash to my new camera?

Thanks,
Spencer

Make sure the trigger voltage isn't going to fry the circuitry in the camera....Botzilla.com has a list of older strobes, but this model isn't listed... I looked it up and it kinda looks like some older Sunpak units (GX8R).... Use a multimeter to test it. I shoot a lot of macro with older Sunpak made Lester Dine units. The power supply sits in the hot shoe & the ring/point light attaches to the front of the lens. TTL doesn't work with iTTl so I set everything manually.

I faced a similar problem, and received a lot of well-meaning advice, but no guarantees. I eventually tried a Neewer hot shoe trigger, with a direct cable to my old ring light (NOTE: It was not the same brand as yours!) - the triggers cost less than $30, and I was told that frying the trigger would be the worst case scenario.

It worked. But no TTL. When I saw the results from a friend's modern ringlight (also a very inexpensive Neewer model) using TTL, I went out and bought my own. I recall that it was in the $50-$70 range, and has full TTL capability on my D3200. It also has the ability to shoot with just one 180 degree hemisphere to provide shadow and highlight detail. I've only used it a few times, but I've relegated the old one to my 35mm film equipment bag.

If the trigger voltage is ok, you can use a Nikon AS-15 adapter to plug your PC cord into your camera using the hot shoe.

Wein makes the Safe-Sync Hot Shoe Adapter that supposedly reduces the trigger to 6v.

For those not familiar with the OP's Unitron, it's strictly a manual unit....no TTL of any kind.
