Head shot of a sandhill crane taken in Manatee County Florida.
Your thoughts.

I like it, especially the amount of space you've left in the frame + that the eye and parts of the head are bright.
I like the shot-sharp, nice feather detail, good colors of the eye and head. If it was possible, I would have preferred that your camera position be lower; this picture is shooting down at the bird and in general I like your perspective to be as level with the bird's eye as possible. Not only does that produce a more appealing picture (IMO) but it gives you a lot more flexibility with background, often being able to eliminate distracting elements like the green vegetation present in your picture behind the bird.
I generally like this shot. But for me s bit more of his neck. As has already been pointed out taking the shot at eye level. So if you would be so kind as to go out there find that bird and ask him to pose again, that would be great.
And be sure to tell the crane that we sent you.
For me the composition is not good.
Thank you Linda, appreciate it.

Thanks for you suggestion baja. I shot this right outside of my back fence. I have the back fence, a narrow strip of land (about 7') and then a pond. He was between the fence and the pond. I was shooting over the fence. There is a gate that I could have gotten out of to get a different angle but was afraid I would scare him off.
I was a very pleased with the sharpness of the image with respect to eye, feathers and top of head.

I can check my crop NJ, there could be some additional neck there. They come around every 3 to 4 days so another pose is not out of the question.
Thanks for your insight.

I will do just that Mike!! Thanks for viewing.

How would you have changed it Bert? Your comment is appreciated but nothing there in how to improve the image.
