Germany, 1977

I got my first “œreal” camera (a Minolta SrT 202 with a 50mm lens) while stationed in Germany in 1977. Today I was looking thru my photos and thought for such a novice, with no instruction, they didn’t turn out too badly.

Here are some that I’™ve tried to “œclean up” to the best of my not-so-great abilities. They were taken in and around Wuerzburg.

Very nice set. I grew up in Germany, so these images bring me right back. I recently picked up a Minolta SRT202. Fun camera even today and the lenses are really good. Back then I was a shooting a hand-me-down Leica FIII. Wish I had bought one of the Minolta models back then, but I probably couldn't afford it in High School. So I have one now and love it. I actually still have the old Leica as well.

Thank you. The 202 was a wonderful camera. It got stolen and I bought a used 101 to replace it. I still have an old Canon AE-1 and a Nikon FE2, and shoot a roll every once in awhile.

1977? Those kids must be in their forties. An interesting proposition for retakes.

I don't put much into "Beginner's Luck". The seeds were in you already and you had an eye for your environs.

Great set.

Thanks for posting. Really brings back some memories. In '77 I was stationed in Vertheim, not very far from Wuertzburg. My son was just about the age of the kids in your pictures and we celebrated his 45th birthday this past Saturday.

They do bring back memories. I can’t believe it’s been over 40 years. Happy birthday to your son.

Thanks for bringing back memories. Both of Germany and my Minolta SRTs. Got a lot of good images from the combination!
Thanks.

Very appealing shots of everyday German life back in the day.
