Walked up to my apartment door Friday after lunch and saw this sitting there. Biggest piece of f2/8 glass inside I've ever seen in real life:
Nice, a $700 case for a $10k lens. Congratulations, show us some pictures you take with it.
What's the story behind this story?
And I agree with cam.79-- let's see some action with that hunk of glass -- perhaps wildlife in Alaska in low light -

Yep, you nailed it - the story behind the story happened in Alaska.
Took a trip up the inside passage on a boat operated by Alaskan Dream Cruises last year and saw an outstanding array of wild creatures, beautiful glaciers and totem poles.
My, up until now, "big glass" (70-200mm) was lacking in its ability to help capture most everything from the river. Came home and ordered a 2x extender that helped some but I could tell when walking around town early in the morning there was a need for the full f2/8 aperture.
After quite a bit of rationalizing and testing (put ten pounds of dead weight in a backpack for my walks) I started selling extra equipment. Enough was accumulated to make the cash outlay not all that big so ordered it from B&H. The 4% cash rewards that came along with the purchase will be almost enough to order the 1.4 extender which should give me big enough guns to attack the landscape from the boat on our next trip this coming August.
Practice until then will be enjoyable!
I envy you, man-- I envy you
I lived in Alaska for 13 (long ago) and have not one photo
Let's see some photos of the Inside Passage
