A couple of views of the Ophir Pass Road-it is the the white line

This road is not for those who can't stand heights or narrow roads. The pass is over 12,000 feet, so oxygen may be scarce for some people. If you decide to take this trip bring water and have good road clearance. Be patient and courteous to drivers coming toward you. There is a pickup on the road about in the middle of 2nd photo.

I have been to Colorado but never did that. I would love to drive that. Thanks for the nice pictures.

Jim, I prefer to take this trip in the Autumn. The leaves are changing and the weather is usually good. I take Hwy 550 over Red Mtn Pass and take a very sharp right turn onto the Ophir Pass Road. It will take about 3 hours to get to Telluride once you are on the Ophir Pass Road. The sun is good along this stretch of the road around 1000 hrs. You see about a 45 minute drive in the first picture, hence to caution to be patient. Depending on how many pictures you take the time could extend to more time. Also traffic in Autumn can slow the trip, you don't have many turnouts to pass. Hope you get a chance to enjoy the trip and the view.

I forgot to tell you-I travel south from Montrose through Ouray then over Red Mtn and to Telluride or wherever.

Hard to imagine that white line is a road. These images are very nice.

It is a one-lane shale road with maybe three turnouts in what you can see. The pictures were taken from a turnout near the pass. You can also see, to the west, the town of Ophir. And beyond is Mt Wilson. Look closely in the lower photo and you can see two vehicles one coming up the road and a pickup near the rock outcrop on the downhill side. Thank you for the kudos.

Nice photos. It is hard to imagine that road but we drive it three years ago. Very fun and beautiful area. We were there in September. Thank you for posting.
