Does anyone have experience with these? They apparently have been around since the 1970’s. Where might I look to pick one up? Thanks.

Longer than that.
http://www.overgaard.dk/Leica-M-Type-240-aka-Leica-M10-digital-rangefinder-camera-page-33-The-Leica-R-Lenses-on-Leica-M240-Catwalk.htmlOUFRO on the Leica M Type 240 for macro. OUFRO is an original Leitz Extension Ring (produced 1959-1983 as part no. 16469Y and part no. 16469). OUFRO can even be stacked for greater magnification and will work on the Leica M Type 240 as macro for all lenses, including the Noctilux, 90mm APO-Summicron-M ASPH f/2.0 (as shown on this picture) and even 21mm lenses. Ebay maybe a good place to look initially, essentially it is an extension tube and there were clones made too.
Sorry I can't help further

Bergen County Camera in Westwood NJ is an official “Leica store” and has an extensive used Leica inventory. I’ve dealt with them for both new and used bodies and lenses and am extremely satisfied. They are very knowledgable, professional, reputable and reliable.
