Agua Fria River Ruins

Here is the remains of 3 communities and the cliff writings in the Agua Fria River basin near Sun City, AZ.
The petroglyphs and villages are of the Hohokam peoples of around 200-1400 AD that populated the Valley of the Sun.
Above the villages is a fortified hill overlooking the river basin.
The canal photos are of a canal paralleling the river and dates to the late 1800's.
These were taken with an Instamatic in the mid 60's.

We keep driving past that area several times a year and have never stopped to look.

They were something, guess they are still there.
Not too many people knew they were there as I was growing up.

Thanks for posting these. Besides be very nice work, they revealed a bit of history of a relatively populated area west of Phoenix.

At the time there was nothing there, Sun City was just a few houses near the stock yards to the south.
