These images are of the HK Porter locomotive #3, built in 1927.
It is a tank locomotive, meaning water and fuel is carried on the locomotive.
There is no tender.
Two foot gauge, meaning the tracks are two foot apart.
I rode right behind the locomotive in the passenger car.
Got plenty of cab shots.
The Engineer/Fireman was very friendly.

The passenger car is right behind the locomotive.
This gives anyone a great view into the cab.
This is the last of the images.
Pat

I did ask the engineer how long it took to learn how to operate the locomotive.
He said about a day and a half.

I rode that years ago. We are thinking of returning but that CC is now a gambling town gives me pause. Great shots and narrative, Pat. Thanks.

Gambling has taken over the downtown Cripple Creek.

Other things to do:
Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine Tour (old gold mine, 1000 feet down)
Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mine Tour (modern open pit gold mine)
Victor Farm & Mine Museum.
Cripple Creek Museum.
Old mine sites anyone can visit around Victor
And the steam train

One can spend several days in the area.
Also, Colorado Springs is a short drive away.

Thanks Pet, I think porters are great engines, love those shots.
On another note, gambling at 9700'+/- altitude could really have a person gasping for air. I'll bet there's oxygen placed strategically around the rooms.

That's sad. It's been a long time since I've was there. Then there were several "Mom and Pop" cafes.

Very interesting Pat. I rode on a narrow track train in Ohio once. It was a short ride and had to back up to get back to the terminal. That was many years ago, and it may have expanded by now. The road and running gear was maintained by volunteers who were, for the most part, retired railroad workers. It was like returning to the past. While going in one direction, the smoke came into the open passenger cars. That was unpleasant, but otherwise a great memory.
