Someone suggested Nubble Light in York. I’ve shot it many times since we have been going to Maine from one to three time per year since 1985. You might want to check, since I heard they are doing some maintenance work at Nubble, so you might not get the typical shots.

Thank you Bud. I will check it to make sure there are no constructions going on. If there is some scaffolding then I am not interested in stopping by at the Nubble. I’ll save it to some other time. Best

A great photo destination in southern Maine is the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge in Wells. https://www.fws.gov/refuge/rachel_carson/

Just outside Freeport, but a world away from it's commercial focus, is Wolf's Neck Woods State Park. https://www.maine.gov/dacf/parksearch/PropertyGuides/PDF_GUIDE/wnwbrochure.pdf

Also in mid-coast and usually not too crowded is Owls Head State Park https://www1.maine.gov/cgi-bin/online/doc/parksearch/details.pl?park_id=92 and the USCG lighthouse there. That is, in my view, the closest location to Portland that offers a real taste of the dramatic Down East/Bold Coast scenery you find farther north.

Sounds Good!

Yes, the coastal scenery can be quite dramatic, fun to visit harbors and lighthouses, good things to see all the way from Freeport to Calais! Just follow Route 1 with side trips to coastal areas of interest. One of those side trips is Acadia National Park.

Yes! Acadia is on my bucket list for when I have more time to drive up the coast of Maine. 😊🚘

Acadia is about 3.5 hours drive from Portland. BTW if you are ever looking for a place to stay near Portland, the Harraseeket Inn in Freeport is my favorite. It's about 15 - 20 minutes away from the city, and has one of the best free breakfast buffets ever. The Broad Arrow Tavern there is super for lunch and dinner too.

We stayed at a less expensive place, but had dinner there on our last trip. Excellent food! Great service! Hard to decide what to choose from the menu...

The secret is to choose one of the plainer rooms, and if possible on a low demand day. Sometimes when we've stayed there it's actually been less costly than a room some of the chain hotels, esp. if you factor in the afternoon "high tea" which can substitute for lunch and the breakfast!

BTW I just came back from Philly to Maine through Bennington, in part to visit the Clark Museum and also to avoid the summer coast traffic. Had some excellent diners at Allegro. Your part of the state, right?

Yes, my part of the state! I live about halfway between Williamstown and Bennington. This makes it possible to enjoy the benefits of both. Love the Clark, and they have great community relations with "Family Days" and "Music Tuesdays" in the summer. All that AND their wonderful art collection, with special exhibitions that change after a period of time. Also spend a lot of time in Bennington, but more for shopping than anything else. The Bennington Museum also has an interesting art collection, and often has community events. I always like driving past the Bennington Monument, Old First Church, and Walloomsac Inn when I take the "back way" home. There is an apple orchard nearby with wonderful mountain views, making it one of my favorite local places for photography, and other back roads that are fun to ride around on.

kamilion,
I used to live in Maine and have many photos of all the lighthouses mentioned and more. I've shot them in the rain, snow, summer etc. It is great fun. The photos I shot back then were from a little point and shoot of which I really knew nothing of how to compose and settings. I just got the look I liked and shot. I've attached a couple for your perusal, but they are not as good as the ones I bet you are going to shoot.

The last one is from FT. Williams Park and the light house is the Portland Head light (I think that is correct, it's been a long time). If you want to know some other names, PM me and I'd be happy to give some to you. Enjoy and I look forward to seeing your results!

My wife and I always take route 9 across southern Vermont on our way from Troy to Ogunquit each year.
Back in my hunting days my buddies and I would stay at one of their camps in Somerset. Have you ever taken any shots of the Somerset school house? This was back before my serious digital photography days so I’ve got to go back up there and get a couple of shots.

On the way back this time we stopped at the Vermont Country Store in Weston, and had an excellent meal at the Bryant House Restaurant.
