Piers here in the Uk, are falling into disrepair this is the closest i could get and the end of the pier was closed to the public. (Shameful.)

Here in the U.S., the Dept. of Transportation issues an annual directory of "red listed bridges." These have significantly deteriorated and are a high priority for repair. Although billions of dollars are spent on our national highway system, the number of "newly red listed" bridges exceeds those repaired, every year. Same thing with re-paving crumbling highway surfaces. We developed this infrastructure back in the '60's and '70's when we had money for things like bridges and interstate highways (and going to the moon, for that matter) but now maintaining that infrastructure is more than we can keep up with. Interesting to see that this is not a strictly American phenomenon.
