Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly (Papilionidae)
On Button Bush blossoms.
W. Kentucky, USA - 7/12/2018
1/250 sec - f/8.0 - ISO 125 - (ok AR)

Interesting Tidbit: The Eastern Tiger Swallowtail butterfly (Papilio glaucus) is one of the most common
and beautiful eastern butterflies. Individuals can be found anywhere east of the Mississippi river and a
bit farther west into the Great Plains states. There are also populations in several Mexican states.

Nice captures of typically uncooperative subjects. The lower one is a Spicebush Swallowtail (Papilio troilus?) I think. Someone once remarked America has nothing like the beautiful South American butterflies but I think a Swallowtail or Buckeye is every bit as colorful and dramatic.

Thank you merrytexan. The vast majority of my photos are taken near ox bow lakes and wetland sloughs near the Ohio and Mississippi River. The rest
are coming from The Land Between the Lakes area. (Cumberland River and Tennessee River)
