coffee and ISO

my grandson knocked a 12ounce cup of coffee on my Dell laptop, drained it off and turned on side in hot Tybee island sun, five hours later it was working. Watched a tutorial on iso he called it I SO, thought it was ISO<which is right?

I've seen it expressed like this in writing. ISO (eye-so). However, most of the photographers with whom I communicate refer to it as I S O

I was a Quality Assurance Manager for a good part of my carrier during which I was a certified ISO 9000 Lead Auditor and in charge of ISO 9000 compliance and training for multiple companies. EYE SO in the USA. People speaking Romance languages (French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian...) may say “EEE SO”, consistent with their use of vowel sounds.
ISO is a proper name, *not* an acronym. If you don’t believe it, read their charter. (The actual original name is French. In English, it is The International Organization for Standardization. They wanted consistency across languages and search engines, so they officially call it ISO.
The field where people most commonly mispronounce ISO is photography. That mispronunciation dates to early reports by the photographic trade press about the switch to ISO standards from ASA and DIN film speed ratings. In their haste to get the word out, they mistakenly assumed it was an acronym! (ASA and DIN were acronyms).

It's just natural people think it's an acronym since the letters are the same as the name of the organization. Besides, us older folks remember ASA, which was an acronym.

Tony Northrop says the correct pronunciation is eye-so. He has a video on the reason for it.
