Monarch.... It's Official!!
I spotted her with my own two eyes depositing eggs on the tiny milkweed that I planted last year... some not even 2" tall!! They stay in the egg for four days....
I will have to gather them up and make a nursery box, because last year, I made the big mistake of putting the eggs in with larger cats and I think many were eaten with the leaves.... so now I'll try to keep them seperated by stages.
Something tells me this is going to be a full time job.... Depending on how many I spot, I will take some inside, but I might just screen around the plants and let the others live outside... and that really is against my better judgment...
I'm officially the Grand-Butter!!

I found a teeny tiny cat while checking on her eggs no bigger than a sprinkle!

You are a great Monarch Grandma. Congrats! You will get the Monarch Butterfly award for 2018.
That's a beautiful Monarch. Have fun raising them.
Reminds me of an argument I had with a neighbor. She kept referring to some local butterflies as monarchs and I kept telling her they are not monarchs, they only look like them. They are Viceroys. Well they sure look like Monarchs was her response so they must be Monarchs. I'm pretty sure she never heard of a Viceroy so I had to be wrong. I finally convinced her when I pointed out there are no milkweed plants anywhere near here, the Monarch is a bit larger and it doesn't have the black horizontal stripe the Viceroy has.

LOL... well, I'm glad you set her straight!!! Monarchs will visit your yard and land on flowers for a sip, but they will never lay their eggs on anything but milkweed.
I appreciate your visit and comment... there will be poop everywhere!! LOL..

LOL... I did start a nursery box with 6 eggs and that tiny cat... and when they get bigger, I'm buying a butterfly cage I saw on Amazon.. I think it will make this process much easier than what I have now.
Thanks for your Congrats, Donna... it should be fun!!!
Angela, you have become the Jane Goodall of the Monarchs. They love you.

Ken, I do feel a strong connection with them and I'm honored to be able to help them.... it almost makes me want to get a monarch tattoo!!
I found 7 eggs and that tiny cat... so I started a nursery box for them.
