My 10 year old grandson and I went out for his first time to use a real camera and this is the result. I gave him my Nikon D7000 with a Nikon 70-300VR lens and explained how back button focus worked, where the shutter button was, and how to zoom. This is his very first attempt at taking pictures. He did it all by himself. He calls it his mohawk bird.

You are an awesome GP. What a nice way to share love of photography with him. He has an eye.

Pretty good shot for a 10 year old and his first time with a real camera. Keep him going in that direction. I understand how you feel. I am very proud of my grandson and his photography. He recently graduated from a professional photography school and is now on his way to being a professional photographer. Keep his interest up and go out with him as often as possible, and keep encouraging him. Tell him, "Good job."

Way to go, Grandpaw! Train them early...leave with them a passion. Took my grandson on his first photo adventure back in April. I set him up with an older Olympus 520. He did so good that day my first thought afterwards was to send the body and a lens home with him. Decided against, am glad I did: Instead of the camera becoming a lost piece in his bedroom it has become a “beg piece” for him when he stays with us. At some point he will get it, but not until I’m certain he understands the difference between toy, and tool.
