I would be very grateful for some CC on these 2 pics. Do I lighten the land mass or not?

Only way to know is to try. The beauty of digital. Do it and let's compare. I personally feel it may be a better shot.

I like it dark also. It makes the sky look on fire, especially in number two. I think you would lose some of that effect if you lighten the land mass. Just one mans opinion.

I like the dark silhouette, but as TK says.....

Try it with the lighter hill & post both (before & after) so we can all see the difference.

Thanks for posting both images Mike.
I think we can all see that the black silhouette looks best. The green of the hills detracts from the beautiful sunset colours you captured.
