Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge (PINWR) is a 4,000+ acre refuge located between Bluffton, S.C. and Hilton Head Island. Upon crossing the bridge, PINWR is just off US 278 on the left (east). The parking lot is about a mile in and from there on there are no services. Access is by bicycle or on foot. About one mile in is Ibis Pond. In the middle of the pond is a rookery, with the pond forming a moat. These shots are from two visits in May. The first was a sunrise visit and the next was mid-day. A photographer's visit to Hilton Head is not complete without a visit to PINWR. Good shoes, sun protection and water are a must. These shots are all hand-held with a rented lens, so they are illustrative and not for the record.
Nice set Mike! I enjoy shooting birds but I don’t have the big lens for it. I just shoot the ones that come to my feeders.
Nice variety and shots, Mike... especially #7!
Looks like a great place to be with a camera!

Thanks for looking. Most of these are crops from a 70 - 200 lens. I ended up getting a 100 - 400. Your picture and comments on chickens inspired me. In the near future I will visit my Hawaii chicken photos and post some shots

Thanks, Angela, for visiting. I ended up with a better lens and now have more experience, but PINWR is a photographer's happy place. If I have time, I will post shots of the landscape opportunities.

It is a great place, Jan. We have a time share and have been going since 1983. Sorry about the absence of warblers.

Thanks for looking, Sylvia. With my lens I am getting away from auto focus and, hopefully, I will improve my PP skills to where I can remove the limb.
Really nice, MIke. I like the Heron {minus the branch :) }
