A pictorially vibrant Western classic from John Ford... It is April of 1863.
Colonel John Marlowe (John Wayne) and three regiments of the Union cavalry
set out to ride into the heart of the Confederacy--a 300-mile journey.
Their objective is to sever the railroad line to Vicksburg, Mississippi,
and thus force that city's surrender to the Union army.
When the mission is completed, Marlowe will have to face the task of leading
his men out of the South to safety. Based upon a historical Civil War incident.

The cast includes classic Western star Hoot Gibson, tennis champion
Althea Gibson, Anna Lee, Ken Curtis, Denver Pyle, Strother Martin and Hank Worden.

She Wore a Yellow Ribbon From $2.99

A masterpiece of mood and heroics, this second film in director John Ford's
renowned cavalry trilogy (Fort Apache and Rio Grande are the others) features
one of John Wayne's most moving performances as a cavalry officer in his final
week of service on the frontier. Under makeup aging him some 20 years,
he inhabits the role of a wily veteran who knows the sting of war and vows to
make his last mission one of peace. The ritual of outpost life, the sweep of battle,
the advance of the patrol beneath ominous skies: She Wore a Yellow Ribbon,
an Academy Award? winner* for its color cinematography, paints a memorable
portrait of the honor, duty and courage in the finest tradition of the cavalry.

And of Ford filmmaking.

Love da Duke. Kirk Douglas and da Duke once made a motion picture together. It was no secret that they disliked each other's politics. Mr. Douglas at the the conclusion of the filming made the comment that "John Wayne actually thinks he is John Wayne."

A similar personal observation of Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery, was made by Winston Churchhill during WWII.. Churchill said of Montgomery that "there for the grace of God, goes God."

John Wayne is a no-nonsense WWII squadron leader whose unforgiving style
clashes with that of his fellow officer, Robert Ryan. But when called into action
over Guadalcanal, he bravely leads his men to victory and earns the respect of all.
Featuring Academy Award-winner Wayne ("Stagecoach," "True Grit," "The Searchers"),
Oscar-nominee Robert Ryan ("Crossfire," "The Wild Bunch," "Bad Day at Black Rock")
and Jay C. Flippin ("Cat Ballou").

John Wayne, my favorite all time actor, no one can come close to replacing him. He never made a bad movie and I think I have seen them all.
