Tried a technique the other night...focus pulling...makes for some interesting blurs and shapes

What, exactly, is focus pulling? Do you pull the camera down as you do the shutter?

It is the same set up as for regular fireworks...tripod, manual mode, longish exposure depending on how long you want your light trails. (i was doing 3-4 seconds) Start with the frame being out of focus, then when you hear the thump of the fireworks get ready to hit shutter release and when you do, slowly turn the focus ring to bring it into focus which gets you the sharp ends. Thats where it gets tricky, because you can't see what you're doing and it's kind of a guessing game. Some turn out, most don't. Each one is unique and if thats not enough, try it from sharp focus to out of focus! I think you can look on You Tube for more explanations too.
