I've had this ongoing project with my daughter and several of her dance friends. We go different cities at times to take these and they are most always outdoors.

Thanks! I've taken hundreds like these and the girls and their moms really like them. It's always a fun outing.

#'s 2 and 3 are nice. The problem with #1 is the DOF has the buildings in the background so sharp that they compete with the dancer. It has the potential to be a great shot, but she is overwhelmed by the busy background.
I will bet you could shoot that at 1/4000 and get that lens wide open.

Thanks Cliff and I see what you mean about 1. I was at 1/1250 sec, f 4 at 43mm. I could have opened to 2.8 or would it have accomplished the same thing if I backed up and zoomed in as far as the background is concerned?

IF you could have gone to 2.8 and zoomed in tighter on her, that would have helped. This image has such great potential! It is another case of, "the background is just as important as the subject."
