I have been researching bridge cameras on line for a while now and I am on information overload, so now I need to go to a brick and mortar store to actually hold the cameras, I also want their input. The answer I am looking for now has anyone used the Dodd Camera store in Mentor Ohio, I did not see their name mentioned here. Their prices are in line with Amazon and a few others I checked, but I do not know what their reputation is. Any help will be appreciated.

I expect that you may be the only UglyHedgeHog participant in Mentor, Ohio. Myself, I've never heard of your town. If I may suggest, you might Google them. Best of luck to you.

If they are cheaper than anyone else (including B &H), I suspect they are selling "grey market" items. Which may or may not be bad. Nikon USA, generally will not repair grey market hardware, although there are some exceptions.

All I can say is, Buyer beware!

Have heard of both Mentor and Dodd (was born in Cleveland). Dodd is a very reputable old camera store, not as large, but certainly as reputable as B&H. See also Roberts in Indianapolis. Good luck. /Ralph

The last 7 camera's I have purchased were from Dodd Camera, Dayton Ohio. I also use B&H for many things, quality the same.
The latest was an Olympus 4-3rds which was a big change and I needed the ability for some patient hands on instruction.
I highly recommend them!

Phil

Don't get around much, do ya Chuck? I'll bet you really live on the outskirts of Jerome.

I have used the Dodd Camera in Mentor (you are not the only camera buff in Cleveland on this newsletter). I have bought equipment from the shop and spoken with their people and found them knowledgeable and fair in price. More importantly, I have bought equipment from employees of the Mentor Dodd off Craigslist and the equipment was well thought our for a photographer and well cared for in. Excellent condition so I suspect that the employees are good guys to deal with on a one to one basis with questions. For a real treat go to the downtown store by Central Cadillac and ask them the questions about the cameras then go to the Mentor store. You will find that the Dodd camera chain is very good accross the chain. Good luck and have fun.

I live in the area of Mentor, Ohio and I believe there Mentor store has closed (boo hoo), unless they simple moved locations. I used to go there a lot when I worked in Willoughby. I believe they are still at their Cleveland location, downtown.

Dodds is a respectable store. It does not sell "Grey Market" products. I have bought from them often and will continue as long as they are located locally. No it is not as large as "B&H" but they have to stay in line with the pricing of online sellers to stay in business. Buy local when you can, it's always easier to talk to someone in person than over the phone!

Dodds in Mentor is open and doing fine. They do not sell grey market items and have a great rep with great people. If they do not have what you want at the Mentor location they will have it shipped in from Cleveland for you to look at. Or you could drive to the store in Cleveland which has a much larger selection to begin with.
