A Lens Question.....
So, if you owned a DX Nikon and wanted to carry only three lenses in your camera bag and go from, say, 14 or 18 to 500 or 600 mm, what lenses would you have? Notice I am NOT talking about the trilogy lenses, but rather a trio of zoom lenses. Also, please don't talk about Canon or Sony or other cameras. I specifically want to know what you would carry if you had your choice of any three zoom lenses to carry with your DX Nikon. Thanks!!
Nikon 10-20mm OR the more expensive 12-24mm. 18-300mm, and then maybe a 200-500mm.
This is just zooms, as you asked. For my personal, three-favorite “kit,” I would have the 10-20mm, the 18-140mm, and a 35mm.

Nikon 16-80 or Sigma 17-70, the Nikon latest FX 70-300, Nikon 200-500......very simple
..
Nikon 16-80; Nikon 80-400; Nikon micro 105...
Sigma 17-50 f2.8, Nikon AF-P 70-300, Nikon 200-500.
But the last needs its own bag.

Can't answer this unless you describe what you like to shoot.
18-200, 70-300 & 150-300.
Hi Shipwreck,
I shoot both an old D200 (DX) and a D810 (FX).
My three lens choices for BOTH, are: the Nikkor 24-70, the Nikkor 70-200, and the Nikkor 200-500. These three SEAMLESSLY cover 24-500, without gap or overlap.
These lenses produce remarkable images. For my purposes, I don't need wider or longer.....but your shooting preferences will dictate that.
Nikon AF-P 10-20, 18-55 AF-P VR, AF-P DX VR 70-300. Tidy, light weight, sharp, not too expensive. If you must have more at the longer end; Nikon 10-20, Nikon 18-140, and the Tamron G2 150-600.

I agree with Bultaco, having an overlap cuts down on lens changing which means less chance of losing a shot and an opportunity.

Interesting, the trilogy are all ZOOM lenses. So, you must be thinking about LESS EXPENSIVE zoom lenses.
So, here are my three picks. All three are personal favorites.
Nikon 10-20
Nikon 18-200
Nikon 200-500 f5.6
When I had only a DX camera...I had the Tokina 11-16 f2.8, Sigma 17-50 f2.8 (willing to sell these if interested) that I used for night sky, landscape and walk around. I also have a Nikon 70-200 f4 and had a Tamron 150-600 G1. I use the 70-200 f4 all the time and I think it is one sharp lens. After I sold the 150-600, I replaced it with Nikon 200-500. This lens is great...if the light is really good and you can stop down to f8.
Good luck!
12-24 f4
28-105 f3.5-4.5 D
70-210 f4-5.6 D
All Nikon glass.

Hi billnikon. Kinda my thought too. Isn't it amazing that both you and I tried to answer the question....and neither of us really know the parameters of what the shooter wants or expects. At least we agree on the 200-500!
24-85 EDG3.5, 70-300 ED G VR 4.5, 200-500... I have the first two, the last is on my wish list...
