Brand new D3100 camera. First one that I have owned that requires lens changes. I am really excited about using them. Up until this point, I have used a point and shoot camera, which has taken some nice shots, but I wanted to take it to the next step. Any advice would be appreciated

Wonderful pictures. All are great. The best thing I did when I got my DSLR was learn to use it on manual setting. I bought some old manual focus lens on Ebay and the adapter and took picture after picture. I am getting better, but still have some terrible shots. I am now using Aperture Priority mode more and still learning. Just take a lot of shots and have fun!!!!!

Not too shabby!

Your fountain can be a fun learning experience. Set your ISO to 100, or as low as you can. Set your camera to the white "A", which is Aperture Priority. Set your lens on smallest aperture, such as f/22 or f/32. Take a photo, which will use a long exposure to make proper exposure. This will blur your water quite artistically.

You can do the same on "M", which is Manual. Now you can play with combinations of exposure and aperture.

When you obtain a CPF (Circular Polarizing Filter) or a ND (Neutral Density) filter, you can try even longer exposures.

Can't wait to go back and retake that fountain picture using your advice. I did some cropping and enhancing using IPhoto. Just now figuring out what moving all the buttons are actually doing!

You are eright track a camera is like a violin only with practice does it make good music. You are a photographer who up graded their equipment now you must practice with along that fine Nikon camera and Nikor glass how can you go wrong.

I love your comparison of photography to music. I will keep that in mind. :D

I wondered about that myself. It actually looked like a stick to me until I looked through the camera lens.
