Will you still be using the D500? Did you buy the 150-600 for it? Are you looking for back-up/second camera, or are you going to change systems totally? I have the Panasonic G7, and if you're not used to lightweight and small, the G9 might be uncomfortable. Hold one in your hands if you're near a store that carries.

You might also want to check out Olympus OM-D E m 5 MarkII or the newer E M1 II. The in camera internal stabilization is spectacular.

Google "Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II vs Panasonic Lumix DC-G9". It makes for fun reading and YouTube watching.

That is a tight race! Both have spectacular feature sets, including stabilization. Both are at the peak of image quality for smaller mirrorless cameras. If the prospect of video is of interest, the G9 might have a slight edge.

I recently got rid of a Panasonic G2 (with standard and zoom lenses). My reactions would probably apply to the G9 also.

Although the results were fine, I just never felt comfortable with it. After coming from DSLR's, I just could not get used to it. I found the menu systems confusing, and I did not like having to change lenses.

When a used Canon T2i came up, I switched back, and am much happier.

I believe Panasonic have the most straight forward menu system of any.
The G9 is generations apart from the G2 - and in any case you are hypothesising.
Don't you change lenses on the T2i?
Glad you are happy with your clunk click every trip.

Still using my D500. Did get a Sigma 150-600 and it’s very nice but very big and heavy. Went to spring training with it and shot some birds. Excellent!

The G9 is considerably larger than the G7, and it is ergonomically correct for *most* medium size hands.

The G2 is an early, and comparatively VERY primitive, Micro 4/3 camera. The G9 is state-of-the-art.

I came to the Micro 4/3 world from Canon and from Nikon — I used both. I preferred Canon menus over Nikon's. But I prefer Panasonic's over everyone else's. I think if you were to pick up a G9 and play with it, you would find it very Canon-like. I also believe that if you used it seriously for a few days, you would fall in love with it. It is a serious professional tool for those who want to or must travel light. Add the newer Leica glass to it, and you have a very capable kit.

EM1ii vs G9...tough call. But since I like to use old 4/3 glass, it only leaves the em1ii as the only viable option. That and since I do very little with video, I find the em1ii more than capable.
