Everyone misses one point. The amount of money to manufactures an automobile or truck isn't as significant as the profits from it's sale. Now my point is where to the profit from that sale go? Doesn't matter if your Toyota, Honda, etc. is "built" somewhere in the United States ... The sizable profits always go back to the homeland. So the PROFITS from your US "built" foreign auto or truck go back to Japan, Germany, Korea, etc.... Not exactly in keeping with the America First theme coming out of Washington D.C.. Before you start questing my my qualifications, I spent 35 years of my working life at a major U.S.manufacturer working on everything from emissions certification, pre-program planning, product development, supply chain engineering, some time in assembly plants, etc. So I'm well aware of what goes into the product and what is bull shit. Profit is what make the world go around and will "Make America Great Again".
In response to the current US isolationist tariffs, there are movements in Canada and Europe
to stop buying any products made in the USA.
Many Canadians are also making the decision to stop travelling to the USA (and spending money
there) for vacations.

Do you see the irony of using a Japanese camera such as a Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Olympus (etc.)

to take photos of the United States?
If we follow your logic Japanese cameras could only be used in Japan;
German cameras could only be used in Germany.
Only "American" cameras could be used in the United States.
Where is Kodak when we need them?!
Sorry- it looks like my last post has ended up being posted twice for some reason.
I used to use a lot of Kodak film!
One other thing.. many of the"Foreign" countries limit or tariff our auto and truck products such that it closes their markets off to our products.
In 2017 Canada imported 341.2 billion dollars worth of merchandise from the United States.
If that number goes down, Americans lose their jobs.
There are at least 3 factories in my hometown in Canada
that manufacture parts that go into GM vehicles.
They get the parts that go into their parts from around the world.

Well, it was assembled in Ohio, but I'm pretty sure most if not all of the components were made in Japan and shipped to the USA for assembly. My apologies if I'm wrong.
You are right and wrong! Many foreign auto makers have dedicated parts plants near their US assembly plants, but, also import some parts. It's pretty much impossible to say what is a "foreign" car anymore!
Profits still go back to Japan! "Make America Great Again"? Profit far out weigh the benefits of american made parts.. And many of those "American made" parts are from plants owned and operated by Non-American Companies that have relocated here .. and those profits go back to their homeland.

According to "USA Today" the cars that have the highest percentage of "American" made parts
are Toyota and Honda.
I guess that means you would have to buy one of those cars in order to "Make America Great Again".

I see your glass is half empty...They still employ tons of Americans, pay taxes, support all sorts of other businesses that supply the plant workers (restaurants, malls, movies, etc.) The world is changing...change with it or lose.
