I found Logitech to be really responsive to my problem with one of their less expensive Mice. Sent a new one out within a week, and my old Mouse had been a few years old before it started to fail. I use a Mouse with my laptop as I've never really been able to master that finger-pad thingy.
I can use a touch pad, just don't like it. It is too slow to move over the screen. A mouse takes just one second or less to move across the screen, a touch pad takes two or more movements to get it where I want it.
