Interesting that Nikon has ended the rebates/price reductions on many of their cameras.
I've been eyeballing the D7200 for weeks thinking to pull the trigger...maybe.
But as of today, it's back up to $999, bye bye $200 reduction.
Not sure what their logic is to do this, particularly on an "older" model.
Will they now languish on the shelf, or were they working just to whittle down the inventory?
Unfortunately, Nikon may have lost many potential sales.

If sales last forever they are not sales. I'd guess they know what they are doing. While you may have hesitated a bit too long, if you wait long enough the same sale should come around again.

Sales and Rebates create a sense of urgency for the purchaser to go ahead and pull the trigger on the purchase. If a rebated didn't expire or a sale lasted forever then it would be called a price reduction and not a "sale" or a "rebate". Nikon (and almost every other retailer) perodically have sales. In the 1980's Apple Computer was almost the ONLY computer company that did NOT discount or have sales. Nikon's sale will probably return in time for Christmas but, who knows that that sale price will be.

Yes, periodic sales are addictive. We would not be repeatedly checking the price (and check out the merchandise in the process) if prices remained constant. Psychologists call this intermittent reinforcement--sometimes you get a better discount, and sometimes none.

Next time this model is marked down you will grab it even if the discount is only $100 because you don't want to miss the deal again. The same discount will not come up again. It will be for a different amount or packaged differently. That way you cannot be sure that you get the same deal during the next round of discounts before Christmas.

My mother-in-law had a simple rule. "SEE IT, LIKE IT, BUY IT". You knew the price was reduced, and you balked. Do not cry foul now, you made a decision not to buy so do not complain about Nikon. All camera companies do the same thing.
But, do not fear, Nikon has these sales at least 3 to 5 times a year. Nikon also puts their refurbished on sale every other month.
So, next time Nikon has a sale, put on your big boy pants and BUY BABY BUY.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.

There is an old saying, "He who hesitates is lost." You hesitated and you lost. Don't blame Nikon for your inability to make a decision. I doubt if Nikon lost many sales.

There's such a thing as over-thinking a situation. If I want something, I generally buy it. If there's a sale or a rebate, I definitely buy it. "He who hesitates..."

If you want a D7200, here's a refurbished for $729.

You might wait to see what camera makers will introduce at Photokina, September 26-29. Maybe there will be a D7300. I'd like to get a D750 but it was introduced in September 2014. Maybe its replacement will be announced.

The D750 sales has ended too. Time to introduce the D760. They would end the sales of the old model back to normal price before introduce the new model which makes the new model looks not too expensive.

If you snooze you loose! Nikon isn’t the only one that ends sales, they all do. You’re just upset you missed the sale.

If you buy it and then get "cold feet" for whatever the reason, you can almost always return it and get your $$ back...that way you game their system and if you like it, keep it, cold feet or buyers remorse, (or your spouse takes the rolling pin out and heads your way) send it back...…….. (hey, then it will be in the "refurbished" category), and I can buy it even cheaper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nikon Rumors seems to think two new Mirrorless Nikons will ship before the end of August. Nikon seems to have a lot going on this year.

My comments were not intended to sound like I was "complaining" that they didn't keep the sale going until I bought the camera. Mainly my comments were that since the camera is not current, they would want to sell through them, so I was surprised to see a $200 price jump, just like that.
Heck, I am in retail. I certainly understand the whole "sale thing".

Just wait for the Labor Day or "Back to school" sale! Holidays were created for sales! LOL. :-) Cheers. Ed
