Hello Folks,
A few months ago I purchased a Sigma 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM zoom tele for my 10-year-old D90 at our local camera shop. I checked it out at the store, or at least I thought I did, by checking the autofocus, etc, and took a couple of pictures, all on "A" aperture priority at two different apertures, so I knew everything worked. So I took it home and put it away.
Fast-forward to the present. A week ago I mounted the lens and discovered that I am unable to change the aperture with the camera is set on "A" aperture priority. It's stuck at f5; spinning the front command dial does nothing. Shutter speed changes on "S" setting (via the rear command dial), and the camera tells whether I'm under- or over-exposed, but the aperture stays at f5. My other lenses work just fine on the D90 (which seems to point to the lens), and the Sigma lens works just fine on my wife's D3200 (which seems to point to the camera). I've cleaned the contacts on both camera and lens with no effect.
Am I missing something? What could it be? Thought I'd toss it out to the experts here before I spend any money on either the camera or the lens. Thank you.
Does it work if it's set in manual
No, it does not work on Manual. Shutter speed can be changed; aperture is stuck at f5.
Reset did not help. Still stuck at f5.
Take it back to the camera store and see if they can, and will help you. Good luck!

Stick with Nikon lens less head aches.
