Very excited! Bought a mint Nikon FE2 to replace my broken FM2. :)
I've been sad that my FM2 has been out of commission for so long. I mainly use the Olympus Trip 35 but for certain situations I keep the Nikon handy. For whatever reason, the focus became screwed up enough so that it wasn't reliable. So I've been on the lookout for another one but the prices of these cameras keeps going up and up. I finally bit the bullet and sprung for an FE2.
Refurbished and in Mint shape.
This should last me a good long time.
Enjoy it in continued good health!
Be happy (I'm sure you already are, though)! Those FE/FE2's are great little cameras. Used both --in conjunction with a FM and a FM2Mot, in their days-- for a number of years, and managed to make a lot of good images (using prime Nikon glass) with them. With regard to your focus challenged FM, though, that's pretty strange. Apart from a pentaprism or focusing screen misalignment, or a fall that whacked the lens mount-to-film plane distance so far out of alignment that there's some discrepancy, there's not a lot to go mechanically wrong with these guys focus-wise. Had hundreds of them apart --ok, that's an exaggeration... maybe it was a dozen of them because they tended not to fail very much-- , and ordinarily any of them were easy fixes, so no telling what's going on with yours. Still, the best camera (insert your flame replies here, bItc^es: ______) ever made was the F3HP. How come you didn't go the extra distance? Haven't checked prices on them in forever, but they've gotta be cheap these days (relatively speaking).

Your FM2 could have either a loose focus screen or mirror. I had the mirror come unglued on an Alpa 6 years ago, Karl Heitz repaired it no charge. It may not cost too much to repair yours.
Congratulations! Great camera. At one time or other I owned each of the cameras in the FM/FE line and the FE2 was a honey, only being bested (IMHO) by the FM3a.
Great looking camera. Waiting to see results.
Years ago, I took a distinct liking to the NIKKORMAT, NIKOMAT and NIKKOMAT named camera's. Those camera's were built by Nikon as well, but the name denoted "home market" or Nikons sold only in Japan. Model names were FT, FT1, FT2 and EL (electronic modes). Substantial all metal camera's, but found for much less money. My favorite is an all black (as with most Nikkormats) EL, which I still take out once in a while.
You could shoot great images on film, as well as drive nails to build a house with most Nikkormats.
Particularly enjoy all your work and the rainbow color schemes with your Trips.
I have 2 Nikon FE 2's silver and black body and one all black. The all black body doesn't meter and I don't know where I can get it repaired
Congrats on the new camera... I have a couple of those and really like them.

I agree... focus "problems" usually aren't anything to do with the camera, but are something in the lens (worn out parts, de-centered element). If it is a fault with the camera, it's probably something pretty easily and inexpensively corrected. So don't be too quick to give up on it!

Focus problem can be with the camera if the focusing screen or the mirror isn't in the correct position. In fact a manual focusing SLR, focus problem with the lens only happens if the lens is crooked and only part of the image can be in focus. If the lens sitting a little further away or closer to the film it still works fine except for the infinity.
I have a metering problem.....not a focusing problem

The FE/FE2's are great little cameras! Enjoy your find!
As others have said about the FM not much that can go wrong with focus. Check that the screen or the mirror hasn't been dislodged.
