This is one of the Californian Towhees that visit my yard on a regular basis. It bounced around in the plants of the flower bed beside my blind too quick for a shot, up to the retaining wall of the upper terrace but was in direct light and the glare just washed out the details on the side to the sun, then up on the fence in light shade but just enough afternoon light for the warm tones and paused for this pose.

Nice capture, Jerry! Towhees are around in my yard but very secretive. I startled one a few weeks ago in the brush under one of the dogwoods at the edge of the front woodland and I think I was as startled as he was!

Thanks
You want startled, go for a walk in a pasture of tall grass and almost step on a covey of quail. When they explode out of the grass it is like you stepped on a bomb.
A beautiful bird in a beautiful setting, Jerry. Outstanding work!
Excellent, well-composed image.
Nice sharp shot.
I can’t help but wonder what that body language is trying to tell you though!

I was in a blind so it didn't know I was there. Maybe it was mooning the finches that were all over the place.
