Thanks to all who contributed to my little discussion about my Sony DSC-H-9, with its 15X zoom, and how pleased I have been with it. Again, and you know as well as I know that "bigger and more" just might be better, and I was looking at the Pana whatshamacallit and the NP510, especially for the zoom!

Many, many folks see some of my photos and say that, "I need a camera like that!" (Many of them own one of the newer DSLRS with all the bells and whistles). I try to convince them that what they have is quite good, but that they need to "LOOK!" before shooting!

Again, I agree with most UHH folks that IT IS COMPOSITION with what you have, rather than a new "bells and whistles" camera! Does your new Super computer make your word processing documents look any better, or much the same? It's all in the composition. Heck, I don't even use most of the stuff available on my old Sony.

Most folks just see something in the viewfinder or screen and snap away, without looking at any framing of the scene or at the background, or even using the nifty little zoom feature to create some DOF! Auto everything is great, but puhlease at least use the zoom and check out the background to make a pleasing picture. Of course, none of this matters anyway, anymore, since we are not using expensive film and developing. We can delete any pic not worthy with a button or two.

But, even not using RAW (however, I liked the analogy from another UHH Member of taking pics naked . . .Wow!), most all of these P&S and Bridge cameras have a lot more features than we can ever use . . . and most are packed for fun!

Again, whatever camera you have, just take a deep breath before taking that photo; check out the background to make sure a tree or other obstacle is not behind; play with the zoom feature to create DOF, and then click! Most auto settings will work with the camera of your choice, but make the most of your photo opportunities.

Geese, ain't his forum fun!

Y'all come on down to the Destin/Ft. Walton Beach area of Florida in October (my favorite month) and get some photo ops!

Gary (hey, did I say I did not mind you knowing my name?)

Kind of a nice rambling tribute there. Good words, advice.

Destin? I've been there and liked it. For me though, it's the Redneck Riviera of Gulf Shores Alabama, where the sand is whiter and finer. At least on my last visit there. After big storms it sometimes gets washed away. As we all will be, if weather patterns remain unchanged and scientific predictions pan out.

Gulf Shores is very, very nice! I do believe the "Redneck Riviera" refers to the coastal stretch encompassing Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida panhandle beaches . . . . Try the smoked mullet. It is known as Biloxi Bacon. I don't really like mullet, but it is popular down here. Heck, they even have an annual "Mullet Festival" every October in Niceville, Fl.! I'd rather have some good ole Mississippi farm raised catfish.

One of the best bars in the world is the FloraBama...I hope it's still there, right on the border....

Yes, and the FloraBama bar on the border has regular Mullet tossing contests too. Gotta love the Gulf Shores annual Shrimp Festival though. They have a 10K run in conjunction with it which is what first brought me to the area. Lots of great food stalls there then also.
