I live just a few miles from a large reclaimed and protected wetland area. One of my first shooting trips was to this area just before dawn. There was a low mist and no clouds. I have been playing with Lightroom (you guy inspired me to finally take the plung) but it is not very intuitive. I know I will need to do some studying and practicing but I think I have the beginning of something good here. I don’t like the sky and I think the foreground is too dark but I haven’t yet figured out how to adjust just certain areas.

Please free to download. As always your comments and suggestions are welcome.

P.S. I don’t like the signature either. Gotta figure out how to edit, move, or delete.

Keni, Very good start. There are tons of youtube videos covering working with LR. I'm sure you'll do quite well working with the videos and putting them into practice.

Welcome to the wonderful world of LR. Once you get the hang of it you will question yourself why you didn't make the plunge earlier. As has already been pointed out YouTube has many videos to learn from.

Thanks Bob. It would probably help too if I were on my laptop instead of a 10” IPad mini. My bifocals are straining to see.

Here is a really quick edit of your shot. By no means is my rendition a wall hanger. But I just wanted to show you what can be done with the use of a few sliders.

Keni, that's for sure. I used to edit my work on a 19" monitor. A few years ago, I purchased a 27" iMac. That made for a world of difference in processing photographs. That is the only purpose for which that system is used. That along with writing any code to be used in conjunction with photo processing.

Thank you. I think it’s going to take few tutorials before I can even get that far.

Keni,
Though not done in LR, everything I did do here can be done in LR.

That looks much better Bob thank you. I’m still not crazy about the sky color but it is certainly better. Silk purse sows ear etc. It would have been nice to have had some clouds to give it some depth but you can’t control Mother Nature.

On another note it did help to view a couple of tutorials. I tend to put things together then look at the instructions. I realized the version on my iPad doesn’t have all the bells and whistles which is why I couldn’t find the controls to work on just parts of the image. Time to drag out the laptop.

Controlling mother nature is a lost cause. Thus, the reason I've not been out shooting for the last 3-4 months; no clouds. However, we are moving towards our stormy season and I'm looking forward to cloudy afternoons.

I’m going to Galveston in a couple of weeks. Staying on the beach. I’m really excited about shooting there now that I have a little more knowledge. Already planned what lenses I’m taking. Checking on the times so plan some shoots. Have to spend time with the family too.

Certainly one does not need LtRm .. many edit programs would do well. Affinity is a one time $50. Robin Whallen of Lenscraft did a great video on Affinity and landscape on You Tube TV.

The photo needed to be taken with HDR in mind. Again HDR need not be an expensive program. $20 from Ashampoo... a yesterday program by Franzis...

Thank you for the recommendation. I had not considered any other programs. I have been using a free program called Photoscape which has its limitations. At this point I'm not sure what HDR is. I am assuming it means high definition resolution but beyond that I don't have a clue. Another thing to add to my list for research. I will check out your link. Thanks again.

What I know of LR you could probably put on a pin head, compared to others here. But what I know I've learned by trial and error. I simply took am image I liked and tried everything. Every button, every slide, every preset. (Of course it was done on a copy, but there's always the reset button! Anything I liked, I exported with notes on what I did. Eventually, over time I learned what I like and what I don't. I like easy, simple and very few clicks. So when I get something I like, I make a preset of it. If I have a series of shots from a particular place, if I can get the first one right, then all I have to do is hit "previous" and normally the subsequent ones turn out acceptable.

Keri, here'€™s what I did in the "€œDevelop"€ (upper right, next to “Library,” where LR opens your photo.
Click on the "Basic" triangle at the top or the right hand panel, and options cascade down.
Color> Auto
Tone> Auto
Clarity> 82
Vibrance> 38

Those kinds of things are usually first step trials for me. Often they work fine.

In this case, my eye "told"€ me that the image was too blue, so, back up to the Color area, I moved the Blue/Yellow slider until looked good to me.

Enjoy experimenting with those basic tools. After that, if there’s something you want to work on, just google “[something] Lightroom” for many tutorials.
