One day we were taking a walk through the rolling hills near the beach and four (or was it five) of these red planes came shooting over the hill right in front of us at an altitude that seemed to be about 50 feet. The sound was deafening.

We watched them take a few fancy turns...and they were gone.

Now I know what we saw!

The numbers you cite made me smile as the Red Arrows fly as a nine aircraft formation although during a display they sometimes split up and your estimation gets the total numbers right .. 4 + 5 = 9 :) I can definitely vouch for the noise they make and the speed... By crikey that single aircraft was FAST.. We decided that aircraft we saw was one of the 'single' display aircraft and it was repositioning out of sight of the crowd and once in position, no doubt it would roar up high over the sea front.

I am going to try and get some sleep Good luck at the air show

John

Sadly this year following some tragic events they will be flying as a seven aircraft display team :(
