Photo through binoculars?

I am using a PowerShot SX120 and slowly learning. I have a dumb question. I saw a wonderful bald eagle the other day. Much too far away for a picture though. I could see his beautiful self through my binoculars. Is there a way to take a photo through the binoculars? Or by using my Canon telephoto lens from my old film camera? I cannot attach it, of course, just look through it. I know this fellow will be back to see us.
This is a very nice forum. Thank you for being here.

It can be done. I seem to recall from a quite a few years back a device to join a camera to a binocular. I have hand held a camera to binocular on an occasion or two and obtained a picture. It is awkward to say the least and the quality could be better.

Most recently I went even further and added a sun filter to the mix. The target was the transit of Venus. First efforts failed. I added a tripod binocular mount which marginally helped. It was the margin of at least some success. I had to have assistance from my daughter. The camera was on its tripod, the binocular was on its tripod, and the ten inch sun filter (for a telescope) was hand held. Still very awkward, with a lot of impromptu adjustment and leaned equipment.

I am glad I did it; otherwise, I'd not have my own take on the twice in a lifetime event.

The background color and features have not been added by post processing. My camera is an Olympus E10, the binoculars were 20x.

I goof around with my little Nikon P+S. I taped the lens to them and played. You should start now, it takes a lot of fooling around to get the focus right. The shots were not great, but I got a Blue Heron standing that turned out pretty good. :)

Hi Folks! This type of photography is called, "A-Focal". In other words holding a camera up to a telescope or other lens. It can be done with much success. You can even do it with a phone camera! Google a-focal photography or check out OrionTelescopes.com for some suggestions. Hope this helps.

Hey, Bobber, I think your pic of the transit was quite good! I watched it through some 16X80 binocs on a tripod holding a solar (white light) filter over the lens.

back in the day there were brackets that held the binocs in front of the lens.not the best pics but not bad either.

Thanks, I just did it for the S&G but they turned out to my surprise and was glad I tried it. Though I didn't know it was called "A-Focal" thanks for that info.
