I just traded in my Nikon Coolpix L110 for the P510. Yesterday morning I spent at a local farm with my grandkids trying it out. I am really impressed with the clarity of the shots and the vibrant color. I also like the added zoom. I have also like the grip and weight of this camera. This camera is promoted for outdoor photography. I love to take pictures of the birds and other wildlife so was drawn to this model. Here is a shot taken yesterday at the farm (unedited).
Nice picture and good choice...Yes the P510 is also a mighty fine camera....check out my bird picture's i've posted at full zoom also using digital....amazing if i say so myself!.
Rathyatra, You can drive yourself nuts comparing features and reading reviews on the Canon SX40HS, Nikon 510 and the Panasonic FZ150. The truth is that they are all excellent, very flexible cameras and all three of them can take very sharp photos with good color rendition. You can shoot every thing from ultra close-ups of flowers and bugs to ultra long telephotos of birds or people. It really doesn't make a lot of difference which one you buy, you will probably very happy with any one of the three. In fact, because they are all so versatile, don't be surprised if you find yourself using which ever one you buy a lot more often than the DSLR you recently bought. ....... Coot

I have heard many on the forum attest to the qualities of the Canon SX40 - I was considering buying one but wonder has anyone had any experience of the Nikon P510 - they both look impressive cameras but I cannot make up my mind. I have only recently bought the Canon EOS T3i ( 600D ) and don't know whether to stick with Canon or maybe try a Nikon camera for a change.
Any comments or advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers Coot - think you are right - can't believe the quality of pictures I have seen taken by all three cameras - can't wait to go shooting as soon as it arrives.
Millismote: I ran a search on fz200 reviews a few days ago and found a 'preview' indicating the preproduction lens capable of astonishing sharpness and IQ. The 100% crop sample photo was crazy good! Again, this was not from a production camera. I'm getting that darned urge again!! There really are times a don't wanna carry around all my dslr gear yet hate missing a wonderful photo opp just cuz i was lazy.
Take the $800.00 the FZ200 costs and buy yourself a really good camera bag or back pack.

Let's see, that $800 would get a Canon SX40, the Raynox 150, a CPL, real nice bag and have $$ left over!

$600 for the FZ200 from what I have seen so far. For over $400 the FZ150 and incredible photos from a camera that easily slips in my existing backpack that previously held the Canon S3 IS. (The FZ200 is a little larger than the FZ150.)
At our age time to leave multiple lenses and large bodies at home. And in far flung countries there are limits for carrying on the essentials.
