Canon 5D Mk IV/Lr Classic missing pictures

Just downloaded pictures from a trip to Iceland.

There are 38 pictures that Lightroom (CC Classic, latest version) says can't be imported (it can't even show a preview). Most of the pictures concerned are every 10th picture, some are consecutive pictures and a few are random singles. All 38 are in a run of 230 pictures. Never had a problem like this before. The pictures were not taken in a burst.

Any ideas? Could it be the memory card or the camera?

Can you see them on your camera? Can you import them to a hard drive, not thru Lightroom? PS What brand card?

Try creating a folder in whatever directory you keep your images. Open a new window for the memory card, so a select all, copy to clipboard then paste in the new folder. If all images copy over, you've eliminated the memory card as a possible error source. Then open Lightroom and do a Import/Add; let us know if all images are added.

I was hazy about the file viewer, since I do not know what computer system you are using. The copy to clipboard and paste is more reliable than select all/drag.

Canon 5D series may have issue keep photos in good order, so, yes, just copy the whole card to a folder in your computer, then you may find all of your photos there, in your computer folder, and with a big display screen, your can see your pictures better than on your camera. PS. Always need to keep a backup for your photos anyway !

AzPicLady Loc: Behind the camera!

I recently did a major trip and shot a lot with my 5D Mk 3. I noticed when I transferred the images to my computer that some of them didn't have RAW images, and a few didn't have JPEGs (I shoot both). Also, sometimes the RAW were behind the JPEG instead of the other way around. I think it was when I was shooting a burst and it started to slow in writing. I'm too accustomed to my 1D that just sort of keeps going in a burst. But that's the first time I've had this issue.

So, I'm wondering if you were perhaps shooting a burst of shots when it failed?

Mark 4 is a slow writer, you need a high speed sd card or go slowly. Slow cards are fine, but watch the red light to clear. Big Files!

Have you allowed Adobe to update your applications? You are current on your payments to Adobe?

Had this problem myself and it is very minor problem and easy to correct. 3 of my 4 Canons have all done this and I use LR on and iMac computer. Start by disconnecting the card from whatever reader is being use. Then close LR and re-boot your computer. Now open LR and go through your normal IMPORTING of files routine and the issue should be resolved. An Apple tech seemed to think that a software glitch was causing the trouble. The solution is free and easy, and that ain't all bad.
