Stack filters?

I have a set on ND filters. It has 3 choices, 2, 4 and 6. I don’t use them a lot and was wondering if I can stack them, say a 6 and 4 to get 10? Any ideas?📸

Sure. As you already have the filters, try it out if you have any doubts.

Yes, but be careful with stacking filters on a wide angle lens though, you may get some vignetting.

The simple answer is yes, you can stack ND filters. However, when you do it increases the filter package thickness which can lead to vignettes on some lens, and you are now shooting through more layers of glass which may effect image quality. If you are interested in doing ultra long exposures you may find investing in a 10 stop ND filter yields better results. Also, you would still have the option to stack say a 10 and 6 stop filter for very long daytime exposures where you are interested in blurring cloud movement for artistic effect.

Are these round, screw on filters or rectangular 105 mm filters?

This picture is the result of a polarizing filter on top of an ND filter on a 16-50mm lens at 16mm. The vignetting disappears at about a zoom of about 20 or so.

It isn’t optimal, but works in a pinch. I have a 3 and a 6, and have stacked them with usable results. Note that you might get some vignetting in the corners at extremely wide focal lengths.
