Yes a gentlemen said the Olympus Tough I bought that for my grandaughter when she was 9.
She loved going underwater. I noticed in Best Buy that a number of the cheaper camera's did not take good shots.
I guess having high end cameras I expected at least decent images. This camera did a good job.
Kids will stay with the camera if you encourage it. She is coming to visit for a month and I told
her to remember to bring the camera. It is yellow and looks great. Might be older model they reduced
the price for me and gave me a credit at Best Buy. Best Buy near us has improved a lot.

Hi all. My grandson is turning six and has shown an interest in "taking pictures." I want to encourage him and promised to buy him a camera of his own for his birthday. I haven't a clue as to what to get him...obviously thinking of a point & shoot, and would greatly appreciate any and all suggestions. Thanks. Dave.

Recently bought my 7 year old grand daughter a kid's starter camera the Vtex Pix, if she takes care of that and/or doesn't lose interest in photography I'll move up the chain from there. Here's a link you might find useful in making your selection for a kids camera.

On the used side of cameras you should be able to find a Sony RX100m2 for about $200. This version has a hot shoe and a built in flash. It is still a great camera (because of the hotshoe it is still my small camera of choice). He is young, so he will easily figure out the menu and how to adjust settings.

My 6 year old loves her red Nikon L-32. It has image stabilization and uses AA batteries. See my post below for a discussion on this topic.

I purchased a Fisher Price camera for my granddaughters. It was bigger then standard cameras. That provided for good gripping, plus had some drop protections. I suggest that you also buy a digital frame, so that he can display his work.

My purchase of the same was "rejected politely" like enver touched, by my then 6 yer old grand son. I think going the Oly Tough route, used makes the best sense. Older for kids is OK. Rare is the six year old Pixel Peeper--except on UHH!

I gave my just 7 year old granddaughter my old Canon Rebel XT... first dslr... about 8 meg and put my 40mm pancake prime lens on it with uv filter and hood... I also have insurance on lens :)and sent her to Washington State with her parents to go hiking and shooting. We will see what we get when she gets back. She wanted a camera like mine and was thrilled with dslr... I knew I saved it for a reason :) We are planning on writing a book when she gets back using her photos... our Summer project! I'm thrilled she wants to shoot.

You will be amused, charmed and thrilled with what she saw and photographed. The book experience is worth 10 time the cost.
