If you peruse Wikipedia on the subject of digital audio recording around 1970, you may get an incomplete picture. Here is a formal paper in the subject.

Good read and thanks for posting. In the late 70s and early 80s, we were using a Sony PCM system that recorded onto video tape (beta or VHS format).

Thanks for the update! Glad to see I was quoted correctly!

I agree on the Wikipedia remark. The great problem is that Wiki does not disclose who the authors are and their credentials. Even I have detected errors and there is no way to report to the Wiki masters.

Thanks for checking in Jack. Not many of us analog old timers still round.

John, It is possible to add to or edit Wikipedia. They encourage it because accuracy is important to them. It is one of the few sites that I contribute to.

Jack Renner. Really enjoyed the Telarc recordings and have many of them yet. From that era, my Denon POA-3000 Amplifier just died (one channel), pushing Klipsch corner horns and Belle Klipsch center channel. Yep, I definitely heard the Bass drum-heard around the world”. Thanks for the memories. I have heard that there is a clique of aficionados for both the Denon Amps and the Klipsch speakers.

Back in the day I had a pair of corners driven by a McIntosh 275. That was a couple of wives back.
I still have and cherish a pair of Infinity Quantum III's. Every time I take them in for a surround replacement, at least 3 people try to buy them including the shop.

If you had a pair of Klipschhorns in your listening room, you are my kind of guy - a truly dedicated audiophile; and you have exemplified an audio truism: everything else being equal, good large speakers outperform good small speakers.

I read the original patents from McIntosh when designing my tube amps. Macs have a very specific “Mac sound”, due partly to the nature of the negative cathode feedback in the output stage, and they are excellent (and very collectable) amps. One of the more memorable sonic experiences of my youth was hearing a recording of a thunderstorm on a pair of specially modified Infinity Servostatics...

The Wikipedia app that works on the iPad is named WikiPanion. It does not have a capability to edit or add to articles or communicate with the Wiki organization. So I can't do what you can
