Members,

I have three lenses I am going to try to sell, sometime soon, here on UHH.
My question is, should the serial number(s) be displayed or blocked out of the lenses?

Yea or Nay

Thanks all!

Don't see why not. It can verify their authenticity.
Not like the number can be used to buy a car on the internet.
I see cameras and lenses on ebay which show the numbers all the time.

Thanks Architect1776.

Just wanted to be sure and not violate any numbers that could harm anyone!

Thanks again.

With Nikon lenses you can usually tell if they are a USA or grey market lens. I always show the serial numbers when I sell a lens.

Thanks for the reply PixelStan77.

Good information.
The ones I have to advertise are all made in Japan.
Does this make a difference?
Such as in price?
Japan a gray market model?

Thanks again!

The issue when you sell the lens, state where you got it from..like B&H purchased new

or the condition new or used and from where you got it. Japan is a manufacturer. You can get a lens made in Japan for Nikon that is Grey Market and also USA distribution.

Most people like USA warranty purchased new even though the warranty may be up.

I would be inclined to not show the S/N (unless it is so prominent that there is no choice. I would list the series of lens, as designated by S/N by listing the S/N in this manner: 5432xxxx

Thanks PixelStan77,
I believe I purchased the three on UHH.

Thanks again for the reply.

Thanks BHC,

While photographing the lenses, the serial numbers are on the front of the lens, looking into the lens, not on the lens.
I could clone a number or two out, but perhaps that would make members think something was up or wrong with the lenses?

Thanks again for the advise!

Nikon will not repair grey market photographic equipment so people want to know where the equipment was purchased.

Thanks for the reply sueyeisert
I can understand wanting to know, but I don't know where they were purchased originally, I purchased them from UHH members.
And I really trust their sales to me, really.

Thanks again!

The numbers are something to focus on, if a photo' is to be displayed with sale details. Why not be honest, like so many other photographers.

Pablo8,

I agree, I think the members were honest with me and I certainly do not want to tarnish my name.
But did not know if the numbers could be used against me or for some other purpose.

Thanks for the reply!

Why don't you show the serial number? So if you sell the lens face to face you don't want the prospective buyer to see the serial number before buying it?
