Thank you for your service. I served in the gulf. Shot Olympus back then after I swamped my entire Minolta kit in muddy water, bag and all. A Vietnam Era marine got me into Nikon.

Yep - been there, done that.
RVN 1968/1969
On USNS General W. H. Gordon Nov of 66, in country Dec 66 - J** 69.
After training I spent my entire time with the same unit HHQ Company 593rd Gen Support Group. From the home base at the Granite City Army Engineers Depot in Illinois to Camp Granite, Qui Nhon, Binh Dinh province Republic of Vietnam and back to Ft Lewis for discharge.
My brother did 23 1/2 years as a medic and my oldest son did 6 years active duty as a 12B, including a tour in Iraq and is presently in an Army Reserve Civil Affairs unit as, among other things, a jump master. Civil Affairs are considered part of the Special Forces and thus Airborne.
I lost track of how many uncles, cousins, second cousins etc served from WWII to the present (one Grandfather and 2 great uncles in WWI) going all the way back to the Revolution and I count 6 ancestors who were in the Civil War - three on each side.
If you do not understand the difference between voluntary separation from your family from forced separation than you don't understand why you went to war.
Three tours, panama, and desert storm.
